Lyle Lovett Plays A Concert At The State Theater 7/23
By: Gabrielle Sierra
Enjoying the height of his career, Lyle Lovett remains one of the all-time great American singer/songwriters. His unique voice and artistry has brought together the trail blazed by Texas storytellers like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark and the crooked highway navigated by the sophisticated Randy Newman and Tom Waits.
Lovett is able to combine these two potent strands of musical DNA into a new genome able to generate brilliant and doublesided songs that are poignant heartbreakers or full of flat-out humor. A smart and complicated man, whose good humor and generosity of spirit holds back a darker character.
