Love, Janis: Final 2 Weeks, Closing Nov. 5

By:

After four months and over 120 performances, Love, Janis, the electrifying musical about San Francisco rock icon Janis Joplin, will play its final 2 weeks of performances at the Marines Memorial Theatre on Sunday, November 5 at 7:00PM.

Originally scheduled for an eight-week run, Love, Janis made its San Francisco premiere on July 16, quickly winning legions of fans in Joplin's adopted hometown.

Inspired by the best-selling book of the same name by Laura Joplin, Love, Janis paints a stunning portrait of the legendary blues rocker, both as the singular performer who defied traditional musical definitions and the sensitive, intelligent person remembered by family and friends. The musical begins in 1966, after Janis has hitchhiked to San Francisco to join Big Brother and the Holding Company, and ends with her tragic death just four years later in 1970. Her journey is told in her own words; the entire spoken text comes directly from actual letters Janis wrote to her family in Port Arthur, Texas and interviews she gave to reporters. Intertwined with these poignant insights are explosive performances of many of her smash hit classics, including "Piece of My Heart," "Get It While You Can," "Me and Bobby McGee," "Ball and Chain" and "Mercedes Benz."

Love, Janis is now playing at San Francisco's Marines Memorial Theatre (609 Sutter Street, 2nd floor) through Sunday, November 5, 2006. Performances are Tuesday - Friday at 8:00PM; Saturday at 2 & 8:00PM; and Sunday at 2 & 7:00PM.

Tickets ($35-$67) are available at the Marines Memorial Theatre box office, by phone at 415-771-6900, and on the web at ticketmaster.com.  For more information visit www.marinesmemorialtheatre.com.
