Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of LoveMusik will begin its final week of performances Tuesday, June 19. The limited engagement will end on Sunday, June 24 at the Biltmore Theatre (261 West 47th Street). The production will have played 24 previews and 61 regular performances.
LoveMusik follows the lives of the unlikeliest of lovers – the brilliant, intellectual German composer Kurt Weill (Michael Cerveris) and the woman who became his muse and star, Lotte Lenya (Donna Murphy). LoveMusik is "an epic romance, set in Berlin, Paris, Broadway and Hollywood, spanning 25 years in the lives of this complicated couple."
LoveMusik was honored with four Tony nominations; 12 Drama Desk nominations, receiving two awards for Donna Murphy's performance and Jonathan Tunick's orchestrations; and five Outer Critics Circle nominations, receiving two awards for Donna Murphy and David Pittu's performances.
On Saturday, June 23 Manhattan Theatre Club will host the season's final edition of their successful new discussion series After Words: LoveMusik at the Biltmore Theatre. The featured guests will be choreographer Patricia Birch who provided the musical staging forLoveMusik, and Bloomberg chief theatre critic John Simon. The discussion will be moderated by David Shookhoff, MTC's Director of Education.
Suggested by the letters of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, LoveMusik features a book by Pulitzer and Tony Award-winner Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy, Parade). Musical staging is provided by Patricia Birch (A Little Night Music), and direction by 21-time Tony Awardâ winner Harold Prince (The Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret, and Sweeney Todd).
The production also features Outer Critics Circle Award winner, and Tony Award nominee David Pittu (Bertolt Brecht) and John Scherer (George Davis), with Judith Blazer, Edwin Cahill, Herndon Lackey, Erik Liberman, Ann Morrison, Graham Rowat, Rachel Ulanet and Jessica Wright.
LoveMusik is produced by Manhattan Theatre Club by special arrangement with Marty Bell, Aldo Scrofani, Boyett Ostar Productions, Tracy Aron, Roger Berlind/Debra Black, Chase Mishkin, and Ted Snowdon.
