Lion King Roars Back Into LA
Disney's smash Broadway musical "The Lion King" will return to its West Coast home at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles this winter for a limited eight week engagement. "The Lion King" triumphantly became the longest-running production to ever play the Pantages and will roar back beginning November 16 through January 7, 2007.
This will be one of eight productions currently running worldwide along with New York and a limited engagement also planned to open this July in
"The Lion King," now in its ninth sold-out year at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, has won dozens of awards including six Tony Awards in 1998, eight Drama Desk Awards, and a Grammy Award for Best Musical show album.
"The Lion King" is directed by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor and features hundreds of masks and puppets designed by Taymor and Michael Curry. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated Disney film along with three new songs by John and Rice. Additional musical material is by South African Lebo M, Marck Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor, and Hans Zimmer. Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi adapted the book and co-wrote the screenplay. The creative team also includes Garth Fagan (Choreography), Richard Hudson (Scenic Design), Julie Taymor (Costume Designer), and Donald Holder (Lighting Design).
"The Lion King" in Los Angeles will have three lower-priced previews prior to the production's opening night on November 18 at 8pm. Subscribers to the Broadway/LA 2006-2007 Season will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets to the production. Reservations for groups of 15 or more are now being accepted by calling 323-463-4367.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public at a later date to be announced. Ticket prices range from $15 to $87; VIP Ticket Packages are also available which feature prime seating, priority reserved parking, and a souvenir program from "The Lion King."
