Lincoln Center Theatre Opens Claire Tow Theater with SLOWGIRL Tonight, 6/18

Lincoln-Center-Theatre-to-Open-Claire-Tow-Theater-with-SLOWGIRL-20120617

The LCT3 production of Slowgirl, a new play by Greg Pierce, directed by Anne Kauffman and featuring Željko Ivanek and Sarah Steele, makes its world premiere tonight, June 18, as the first production to be presented by LCT3 in its new home, The Claire Tow Theater, on the roof of Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Slowgirl will run for six weeks only through Sunday, July 15. All tickets are $20.

Slowgirl is the story of Becky (Sarah Steele), a teenage girl who flees to her reclusive uncle Sterling's (Željkko Ivanek) retreat in the Costa Rican jungle to escape the aftermath of a horrific accident. The week they spend together forces them both to confront who they are as well as what it is they are running from. Sets are by Rachel Hauck, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Japhy Weideman and sound by Leah Gelpe.

Željko Ivanek received Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations for his performance in the LCT production of Two Shakespearean Actors. His other stage credits include The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations), Pillowman, Loot, Brighton Beach Memoirs (Tony Award nomination) and Cloud Nine (Obie Award). His many film and television credits include Damages (Emmy Award), The Event, True Blood, Big Love, Heroes, John Adams, Numb3rs, In Bruges, 24, Homicide: Life on the Streets and Oz. Sarah Steele was featured in the LCT3 production All-American. Her other stage credits include Russian Transport and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She has appeared in the films Spanglish, The Good Student and Margaret and on television in Law & Order, Gossip Girl, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and The Good Wife.

The performance schedule for Slowgirl is Monday evenings at 7pm and Wednesday through Sunday evenings at 7pm with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets, priced at $20 for all performances, are available at the Lincoln Center Theater box office, at Telecharge or by visiting www.lct3.org.

The Claire Tow Theater, named after the wife of long-time LCT Board of Directors member Leonard Tow, is the centerpiece of a 23,000 square foot rooftop complex on the Vivian Beaumont Theater which also houses much-needed rehearsal and office space and features an outdoor terrace overlooking the Lincoln Center Plaza which will be surrounded by a new green roof. The structure is intended to be LEED Silver certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

LCT3 was established in 2008 as a programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists as well as developing new audiences. Since its inception, LCT3 has presented nine productions at The Duke on 42nd Street, prior to moving into its new home at The Claire Tow.

In addition to Slowgirl, LCT is currently presenting the open-ended runs of the 2011 Tony Award winning Best Play War Horse, based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford in association with Handspring Puppet Company and directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and Jon Robin Baitz's critically acclaimed Other Desert Cities, directed by Joe Mantello on Broadway at the Booth Theater. LCT's production of Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles, directed by Daniel Aukin, which was originally presented by LCT3 last June, recently re-opened at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater where its run has been extended through July 1. In addition, Lincoln Center Theater is a co-producer of the current Broadway production of Bruce Norris' Pulitzer Prize-winning play Clybourne Park, directed by Pam MacKinnon, at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
