Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres and Broadway's Lin-Manuel Miranda are now in Puerto Rico filming the upcoming bilingual romantic comedy "200 Cartas."

The cast also includes Jaime Camil, Iris Chacón, Nydia Velázquez, Juan Manuel Lebrón, Luis Raul, Mayra Matos, Otilio Warrington and Victor Alicea.

Puerto Rico-born Torres and the "Nuyorican" Miranda discussed the film Thursday at a press conference in San Juan.

"I received many proposals that didn't work for me, but when I read the screenplay of this film, I quickly wanted to do this audition," said Torres.

Torres, the ex-wife of Marc Anthony, began her film career after winning the Miss Universe crown in 1993.

"The screenplay was perfect for me," said Miranda, who, like the film's protagonist, was born in New York to Puerto Rican parents.

Miranda is most famous for writing and starring as Usnavi in the Broadway musical In the Heights, which opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 2008 and for which he won the Tony Award as composer and lyricist. He also wrote Spanish language dialogue and worked with Stephen Sondheim to translate into Spanish song lyrics for the revival of West Side Story, which opened on Broadway in March 2009. He is currently working on a musical theatre version of Bring It On, based on the 2000 cheerleader comedy film of the same name.
