Lied Center to Host 20th Anniversary Party 9/25

The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will celebrate its 20th anniversary season Sept. 25 with a free party featuring the Cornhusker Marching Band and Lincoln's own a capella group, No Better Cause.

An important part of the Lincoln community for two decades, the Lied Center welcomes the public to join in an evening packed with free food, music and fun to commemorate the occasion. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Lied Center, 301 N. 12th St.

The evening will kick off with an exhilarating performance by the Cornhusker Marching Band live on the Lied Center's main stage. No Better Cause, the award-winning pop/soul/funk vocal band, will captivate the crowd for the rest of the night. The group's music has put it on a national platform since its humble beginnings in 2002. Whether it's the rumbling resonance of the bass, the spectacularly soaring high tenors, or the bold beatboxing of the incredible vocal percussion, this group is sure to please, as each unique component of this seasoned a cappella sensation works together to make their harmonized sound a sonic movement. Some favorites include "Fly Like an Eagle," "Stand By Me," "My Funny Valentine," a Michael Jackson medley and a Motown medley.
Local actor, musician and politician Dave Landis will host the party. After the performances, free cake and refreshments will be served in the lobbies, where the Lincoln jazz trio, The Lightning Bugs, will continue the musical ambience. Dinner will be available for purchase before the event from several vendors. The Friday night event at the Lied coincides with the university's annual Homecoming weekend festivities.

Those in attendance will be able to take advantage of a special one-night-only discount on a selected Lied Center event. With a schedule of shows including South Pacific, Yo-Yo Ma, Avenue Q and George Winston, the Lied Center has received positive feedback about its 20th season. Ticket sales are up 13 percent from last year and many shows are on their way to selling out.

For additional information, contact the Lied Center at (402) 472-4747 or toll free at (800) 432-3231 or visit www.liedcenter.org.

The Nebraska Arts Council, a state agency, has supported the programs of this organization through its matching grants program funded by the Nebraska Legislature; the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
Lied Center programming is supported by Friends of Lied and grants from Association of Performing Arts Presenters; the National Endowment for the Arts; Mid-America Arts Alliance; Nebraska Arts Council; New England Foundation for the Arts; and Lincoln Arts Council. All events in the Lied Center are made possible entirely or in part by the Lied Performance Fund, which has been established in memory of Ernst F. Lied and his parents, Ernst M. and Ida K. Lied.
