Les Miserables Extends Through Summer 2007

Producer Cameron Mackintosh announced today that his new production of LES MISÉRABLES will continue to call the Broadhurst Theatre home at least through the summer of 2007. "I am delighted that audiences have welcomed LES MIZ back to Broadway with such open arms. Because of even stronger than anticipated ticket sales, clearly public demand exists for the show to continue at the Broadhurst beyond the originally planned six-month engagement," said Mackintosh

The new cast of LES MISÉRABLES features Alexander Gemignani (Valjean), Norm Lewis (Javert), Gary Beach (Thenardier), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Fantine), Jenny Galloway (Madame Thenardier), Celia Keenan-Bolger (Eponine), Aaron Lazar (Enjolras), Adam Jacobs (Marius) and Ali Ewoldt (Cosette). As previously announced, Daphne Rubin-Vega will take a leave of absence from February 18 until April 11 to star in Jack Goes Boating. A replacement for Rubin-Vega will be announced after January 1.

LES MISÉRABLES is the third longest-running show in Broadway history and on October 8 the London production of LES MIZ passed the 21 year old record of Cats to become the longest-running musical ever in the West End, with a run nearly three years longer than Broadway's record-holder The Phantom of the Opera. All three shows have been produced by Cameron Mackintosh. LES MISÉRABLES, which opened in London on October 8, 1985, is also currently the longest-running musical in the world, having played for 1,102 consecutive weeks.

LES MISÉRABLES has been seen by over 54 million people in 38 countries and 21 languages since its first London performance in October 1985. The original Broadway production opened on March 12, 1987, at the Broadway Theatre, winning eight Tony Awards that season, including Best Musical. The show went on to play a total of 6,680 performances.
