Leo Steele Presents Tacit Theatre's The Canterbury Tales

By:

Leo Steele presents Tacit Theatre's production of The Canterbury Tales. Based on the original stories by Geoffrey Chaucer, and adapted for the stage by Tacit Theatre.

Directed by Juliane von Sivers.

7th December 2011 to 7th January 2012
PRESS NIGHT: FRIDAY, 9TH DECEMBER 2011 AT 7.45PM

An immersive adaptation of Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales opens for a five week run in Southwark Playhouse's Main House on 9 December 2011 with previews from 7 December 2011

An explosion of live music, story-telling and general mischief, Southwark Playhouse's Main House will be transformed into a fully functioning tavern for a new adaptation of Geoffrey Chaucer's medieval masterpiece this Christmas.

The Canterbury Tales is an immersive adaptation that puts the audience at the heart of the action as patrons of the Tabard Inn, which - as the starting point of the pilgrims' journey to Canterbury - once stood a five minute walk from Southwark Playhouse on what is now Borough High Street.

At turns enchanting, scandalous and disgusting the tales unfold in a mixture of story and song as a collection of rogues, wenches and travellers tell stories to entertain each other on their pilgrimage. From the antics of adulterous lovers to the revenge of cuckolded husbands, the characters remain as engaging and recognisable today as they were in the 14th Century.

Featuring live folk music, local ale and stories that are not for the faint-hearted, this is an evening of story-telling theatre like no other. Suitable for ages 15+

The Canterbury Tales runs alongside Southwark Playhouse's production of Howl's Moving Castle which takes place in The Vault from 28 November 2011 - 7 January 2012.
