Legally Blonde to Pre-Bway Debut SF Jan. 23, 2007

By:
SHN will host the world premiere Pre-Broadway engagement of the new musical Legally Blonde, based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture, January 23 through February 25 at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre (1192 Market Street) as part of the 2006-2007 Best of Broadway season, brought to you by Citibank, under the direction of Carole Shorenstein Hays.

Leading the creative team of Legally Blonde is Tony Award-winning choreographer Jerry Mitchell, who makes his Broadway directorial debut and will also choreograph.  Music and lyrics are by both Nell Benjamin and Laurence O'Keefe, and the book is by Heather Hach.  The production features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by ACME Sound Partners.  No cast has yet been announced for the new musical.

"Based on the hit film starring Reese Witherspoon, sorority star Elle Woods doesn't take no for an answer," explains press notes, "So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more 'serious,' Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style."

After its San Francisco engagement, Legally Blonde will open at the Palace Theatre on Broadway April 29, 2007 – produced on Broadway by Hal Luftig, Fox Theatricals and Dori Berinstein, in association with MGM Onstage, Darcie Denkert and Dean Stolber.

Currently tickets to Legally Blonde are only available as part of the 2006-2007 Best of Broadway subscription series.  For subscription information, please call 877-797-7827 or visit www.shnsf.com.  Single and group tickets for Legally Blonde will be available at a later date.
