Tony winner Lea Salonga celebrates 20 years of MISS SAIGON by staging a live by request concert series at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Plenary Hall on December 11 and 12, 2009. And for the very first time, participate in creating Lea’s repertoire by sending in your requested songs (the unlikelier, the better) through her concert web site at www.leayoursongs.com till the end of September 2009.
Lea Salonga…YOUR SONGS, produced by AmbientMedia, will be under the direction of Bobby Garcia (Broadway Asia, Atlantis Productions) with musical direction by Gerard Salonga (West Side Story), together with the 47-piece FILharmoniKA orchestra. The Philippines’ comedy concert queen Ai-Ai De Las Alas, premier balladeer Richard Poon, and The Philippine All Stars hip hop dance group will be Lea’s special guest performers.
AmbientMedia is a media and entertainment company whose aim is to bring the talents of both artists and entrepreneurs together to create things that last in the memories of their audience. It recently produced the successful concert QUICK CHANGE, featuring Filipino comedian Jon Santos and vocal group The CompanY. AmbientMedia also produced Lea’s last major concert in Manila entitled LEA…MY LIFE ON STAGE that won the 2008 Aliw Awards for Best Director, Best Musical Director, and Best Major Concert for a Female Artist.
Your BroadwayWorld.com Philippines correspondent just sent in his request -- a heartbreaking love song from CHESS the musical entitled HEAVEN HELP MY HEART. He and Lea’s other fans all over the world are praying that their songs will make it to the show.
As of press time, Lea is sure to sing BAYAN KO (My Country) again due to overwhelming public demand. She first sang the song, which was originally written as a protest hymn, at former President Corazon Aquino’s requiem mass.
"We get requests like 'Pokerface' from Lady Gaga, we get 'Rehab' from Amy Winehouse, we get The Dawn (a local rock band), Michael Jackson... We have all kinds of requests," Lea said in a recent press conference held in Manila.
"Personally, I'm trying to avoid songs I've already done before, or songs already available in the DVDs and CDs. I want to try as much as I had never done. That's the challenge of it. That's what makes me tick," added Lea.
Concert tickets are available at TicketWorld with telephone number (632) 891-9999 and web site at www.ticketworld.com.ph.
