Laura Linney, Patrick Stewart, and More Take Part in BROADWAY BUILDS Today, 9/24

Broadway stars, writers and producers will don hard hats and dedicate a day to making a difference by building affordable homes for deserving families with Habitat for Humanity – New York City (Habitat-NYC) as part of Broadway Builds today, September 24.

Broadway volunteers will spend their day helping revitalize eight homes in a multi-family building in Bedford- Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Together, they'll build alongside future Habitat-NYC homeowners at the Jefferson Avenue Residences and help promote Habitat for Humanity – New York City's work creating affordable homeownership opportunities for low-income families. The event's co-chairs include Jordan Roth, Daryl Roth, Michael Cerveris, Stephen Belber, Emily Bergl and Broadway Serves. Volunteers will include: Laura Linney, Patrick Stewart, Carrie Preston, Tom McCarthy, Stew, Dominic Fumusa, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Arian Moayed, Jennifer Mudge and more.

Event organizer Emily Bergl, a longtime Habitat for Humanity volunteer, explains, "We in the Broadway community have a real understanding of the need for affordable housing in New York City. By coming together on this day, we will bring Habitat for Humanity – New York City one step closer to realizing its goal of helping 100 Brooklyn families."

"We're thrilled to have so many members of the Broadway community spend their day helping Habitat- NYC build homes for deserving families in Brooklyn," said Rachel Hyman, Acting Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity – New York City. "We're appreciative of their hard work and commitment to service and volunteerism."

The Jefferson Avenue Residences are part of Habitat-NYC's 100 Homes in Brooklyn initiative, which aims to build or acquire and rehab 100 affordable green homes in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Ocean Hill-Brownsville by 2014. The initiative is funded in part through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Neighborhood Stabilization Program Round 2.

Habitat for Humanity - New York City is the largest builder of Habitat homes in the Northeast, and thousands of volunteers build with Habitat-NYC each year. Each homebuyer contributes at least 200 volunteer hours as part of their partnership.

To volunteer, donate, organize a fundraising event, or learn more, visit Habitatnyc.org or call (212) 991-4000.

Habitat for Humanity - New York City transforms lives and our city by building quality homes for families in need and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing. With the help of thousands of volunteers every year, Habitat-NYC has built more than 260 affordable homes in the five boroughs of New York City.
