LES MIS Surpasses $400 Million Mark in Worldwide Sales

Following its recent Oscar wins, LES MISERABLES has officially surpassed the $400 million mark in worldwide sales, making it the second highest-grossing movie musical of all time.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hooper's adaptation of the beloved stage musical has grossed $147 million domestically, and in international markets, has taken in over $254.4 million, bumping its total to $401.4 million.

MAMMA MIA, which was released in 2008, is still the most profitable musical film adaptation, grossing over $605 million during its release. Universal is still set to release LES MISERABLES in seven additional international markets within the coming months, boosting its chances of surpassing the ABBA jukebox musical.

At the 85th Annual Academy Awards, LES MISERABLES won three titles: Anne Hathaway took home the her first Oscar for her performance as 'Fantine,' while the film was also recognized for 'Hair and Makeup' as well as 'Sound Mixing.'

Helmed by The King's Speech's Academy Award-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, LES MISERABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, Sacrifice and redemption-a timeless Testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for Decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
