LCT3 to Hold Workshop for Daniel Beaty's MR. JOY, 4/9-21

THE-BIG-KNIFE-20010101

Lincoln Center Theater presents an LCT3 Special Event of Mr. Joy, a 90-minute one-man show written and performed by Daniel Beaty and directed by Sheryl Kaller. The workshop production will be performed April 8, April 9, April 12-15, and April 17-21 at 7:00 pm at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street).

At the start of the show, something has happened to Mr. Joy, a Chinese-American who has run a shoe-repair shop in Harlem for decades. Through Beaty's signature style of multi-character storytelling, Mr. Joy's customers and others discover the nature of the incident, and realize the impact he has had on their lives and their changing community.

Mr. Joy, a work in progress, has lighting by Michael Gilliam, original music and sound by Lindsay Jones and projections by Josh Lehrer.

LCT3 Special Events were introduced with the opening of the Claire Tow Theater in the summer of 2012 when Lincoln Center Theater invited Young Jean Lee's Theater Company to perform their Obie Award-winning piece We're Gonna Die. LCT3 will continue to welcome emerging theater companies, workshop productions in various stages of development, and other special event programming to the Claire Tow Theater.

This summer, in addition to its Special Events, LCT3, Lincoln Center Theater's programming initiative devoted to producing the work of new artists and developing new audiences, will produce the world premiere of A Kid Like Jake by Daniel Pearle, to be directed by Evan Cabnet, beginning Sunday, June 2 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street).

Tickets to Mr. Joy, priced at $20, are available at the Lincoln Center Theater box office, at telecharge.com or by visiting www.lct3.org.
