LA CAGE AUX FOLLES to Close on Broadway May 1; Tour to Launch in October

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, the 2010 Tony Award winner for Best Revival of a Musical, is now in its last four weeks on Broadway. Final performance will be Sunday, May 1 at 3:00 PM at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street). At closing, the production will have played 433 performances and 15 previews. LA CAGE AUX FOLLES will be launching a national tour this fall, starting in October in Des Moines, IA.

"We're sorry to have to announce the final weeks of this exuberant production, which has brought great joy to audiences for the last year, as well as to everyone who has worked on the show, on stage and off," the producers commented. "But we were thrilled to present Terry Johnson's brilliant production to great acclaim in New York and now, the rest of the country will discover this wonderful new LA CAGE on national tour this fall. In the meantime, we will enjoy ‘The Best of Times' while they last at the Longacre, with the wonderful Harvey Fierstein and Christopher Sieber leading our brilliant Broadway company."

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and book by Harvey Fierstein, based on the play by Jean Poiret. This production is choreographed by Lynne Page and directed by Terry Johnson, who won a 2010 Tony Award for his direction.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES stars Harvey Fierstein as Albin, Christopher Sieber as Georges; Mike McShane as M. Dindon/M. Renaud; Veanne Cox as Mme. Dindon/Mme. Renaud; Chris Hoch as Francis; Heather Lindell as Anne; A.J. Shively as Jean-Michel; Christine Andreas as Jacqueline; Wilson Jermaine Heredia as Jacob; Ashley Kate Adams as Colette; Michael Lowney as Etienne and Bruce Winant as Tabarro.

Also starring as the notorious and dangerous Cagelles are Matt Anctil as Angelique, Sean Patrick Doyle as Chantal, Yurel Echezarreta as Phaedra, Logan Keslar as Bitelle, Terry Lavell as Mercedes and Karl Warden as Hanna. The production also features Christophe Caballero, Todd Lattimore, Dale Hensley, Caitlin Mundth and Cheryl Stern.

Critics recently returned to LA CAGE AUX FOLLES to see stars Harvey Fierstein and Christopher Sieber and found the Tony-winning production to be better than ever. "Harvey Fierstein owns the role of Zaza - and that of her male alter ego, Albin - in a way that replacement stars on Broadway seldom do, wearing his sequins like well-earned badges of honor. His Albin is a royal diva and commanding cut-up. Fierstein sings "I Am What I Am" with blazing authority and exudes a bright, switched-on starshine that audiences can bask in. He and the first-rate Christopher Sieber have a sparkly chemistry!" raved Ben Brantley, The New York Times. "Like Bernadette Peters in A Little Night Music, Harvey Fierstein makes you rediscover a familiar role and its anthem - in his case, ‘I Am What I Am' - rendered more touching by the star's distinctive bark. Christopher Sieber is a smooth, funny leading man. Sieber and Fierstein are so endearing that it's impossible not to root for them!" claimed Elisabeth Vincentelli, New York Post. ""Fierstein is a plus-size star with a personality to match! Christopher Sieber is charming and cheerfully frisky! Director Terry Johnson's production is in excellent shape. The best of times is still now!" cheered Joe Dziemianowicz, Daily News.
