Know Theatre of Cincinnati Opens Season with BOOM, 10/10
The Know Theatre of Cincinnati will open its season with "boom", a play by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb. This production is directed by Drew Fracher, and features two of Know Theatre's resident actors, Joshua Murphy and Liz Vosmeier. It will also feature recent Acclaim Award Rising Star, and creator of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival show, In Rehearsal, Alison Vodnoy.
Jo arrives at what appears to be an underground laboratory after answering a Craigslist ad promising "sex to change the course of the world". What she finds is Jules, a marine biologist who has determined that the world is going to end...tonight. When it turns out to be true, Jules and Jo begin to realize that this is only the first of many signs their relationship is not meant to be.
"Mr. Nachtrieb has a gift for darkly funny dialogue and an appealing way of approaching big themes sideways. [boom] winds up speaking, quietly and piquantly, to our enduring fascination with and need for myths about the beginning of life as well as its end," says Ben Brantley of The New York Times.
In addition, the Know Theatre Company announced it will continue to offer $12 tickets for the 2009-2010 Season. Tickets will remain $12 for advance purchases and then rise to $15 for the day of the show.
"We believe this an unprecedented initiative for a company of Know Theatre's size, and it will attract national attention to the innovation continually being embraced by Cincinnati's arts and culture organizations," says Eric Avner, Vice President of Community Development at the Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr./US Bank Foundation.
