"Packs the midrange full with all sorts of shimmery textures-- the lo-res digital snares land with a static-laden splash, ringing guitars are haloed in harmonics, and stretched along the back is a fluttering curtain of white noise...Sky Ghosts is certainly a nice track to get lost in"

This Quebec, Canada-based death metal band promised great things on their 1991 debut, Considered Dead, which featured guest spots from the Death guitarist James Murphy and Cannibal Corpse vocalist Chris Barnes. But after their 1993 release, the band parted ways with their label and fell silent for five years leaving many fans to assume that they had parted ways permanently. In 1998, singer Lema returned with a new line-up (guitarist Steeve Hurdle, bass player Steve Cloutier and drummer Patrick Robert), a new contract with the Olympic label and Obscura, which lived up to its title by exploring progressive, almost avant garde sounds.

Friday, May 28th
Junk Science, Das Racist, Tone Tank & Scott Thorough
Junk Science is Baje One on the mic and DJ Snafu on the beats. These two young gentlemen met in high school in Brooklyn in the mid-nineties (when Baje One stole a handful of tapes from Snafu's backpack, including a cassette containing original beats that were "dope") and started making lots of "not-that-good-but-definitely-interesting" music together on half-days and weekends. Not that much happened between then and 2003-ish. At that point, they moved in together and started working on their debut album, Feeding Einstein, "an intelligent blend of DJ Snafu's dusty collages and Baje One's thoughtful commentary." -Spitkicker.com

Join us to celebrate the release of A Miraculous Kind Of Machine, the duo's 3rd album which will be out in May on Baje One's own label, Modern Shark.

Saturday, May 29th
The Chrome Cranks, Thalia Zedek, Clockwork Mercury
"Like many good things, the Chrome Cranks formed in Ohio (Cincinnati, to be exact). As would eventually be befitting, the band played its first show there opening for Pussy Galore, but it wasn't until singer/guitarist Peter Aaron and guitarist William Weber made their way to New York that the band founds its calling (or perhaps it found them). Hooking up with Jerry Teel, formerly of the Honeymoon Killers, who at one time included Jon Spencer of Pussy Galore, and eventually with Bob Bert (formerly of Pussy Galore and Sonic Youth), they released a handful of records that channeled their noisy lineage through a Cramps-like filter of greasy, garage rock. They may not have gained the notoriety of some of their Lower East Side brethren (Spencer most notably), but between 1992 and 1996, they created a sound at once caustic and fetchingly primal that was an essential cog in that niche."

Monday, May 31st
Every Other Monday
Newtown Radio Presents
Ava Luna, Truman Peyote, Nude Beach, Quiet Hooves, Bubbly Mommy Gun
Newtown Radio is a local internet radio station located at Danbro Studios in Bushwick, Brooklyn. They exist to bring you hot new bands from around the world, undiscovered local talent, and hidden gems from the past. The Newtown Radio Showcase at the Brooklyn Knitting Factory is a new bi-weekly live music event. They'll be putting local bands on a local stage...and broadcasting it around the world on http://www.newtownradio.com. Between sets, they'll conduct exclusive interviews with the bands and Newtown DJs will play tracks from their library. We think it's kinda cool...

Tuesday, June 1st
The Damned Things, Static Summer
The Damned Things are: Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano from Anthrax, & Keith Buckley from Every Time I Die. We're not sure what they're up to musically, but we're will to bet it's going to be pretty over the top.

Friday June 4th
The Mercury Program, Fin Fang Foom, the American Dollar
Undoubtedly, the Mercury Program have established themselves as one of the most exciting bands who place a premium on intricate song craft and mesmerizing live performance. Formed in the summer of 1997, they have re-emerged with a bracing mix of angular guitars, rhythmic bass lines, jazz-influenced drumming, and ethereal vibraphones. Chez Viking is a twinkling, shimmering album whose strengths of interplay between guitar, vibraphone, and Rhodes are complemented by lockstep rhythm section. It's a fantastic combination that succinctly captures the band's bright intensity, and reveals the benefit of the extended time it took to create.

Saturday, June 5th
Hub City Stompers, The Rudie Crew, The Moon Invaders, The Caroloregians, Royal City Riot
Hub City Stompers hail from the "hub city" of New Brunswick, NJ. Formed in the summer of 2002 in the wasteland of the seemingly "dead" ska scene, these necromaniacs romanced ska's rotted corpse, playing for the love of the music rather than the popularity of it, and formed a force to be reckoned within the New Jersey music scene. Embracing various styles and eras of ska from the 60's through the 80's, and adding reggae, punk, oi!, hardcore, jazz and even classical influences, they manage to avoid a typical, formulaic ska sound and steer clear of cliche poppy ska lyrics.
