Kelli O'Hara, Paulo Szot and Aaron Lazar Set for NY Pops' SOME ENCHANTED EVENING Tonight

Tonight, The New York Pops orchestra will launch its 30th Season at Carnegie Hall with Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the orchestra in a highly-anticipated opening with Broadway favorites by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The performance features guest artists Aaron Lazar, Kelli O’Hara and Paulo Szot, along with Judith Clurman’s Essential Voices USA and New York Theatre Ballet. The program includes classics from Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

“I’ve never been more excited about an opening of the season,” says Music Director Steven Reineke. “This may be the best one yet. It’s going to be a glorious night of music.”

The concert program features some of the most iconic music from the golden age of Broadway, including “Shall We Dance?” from The King and I, “If I Loved You” from Carousel and “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music. Kelli O’Hara and Paulo Szot will reprise songs from their critically-acclaimed turns in South Pacific and will join Aaron Lazar in the title number from Oklahoma!. Judith Clurman’s renowned Essential Voices USA will perform “It’s a Grand Night for Singing” from State Fair. In a moment which will undoubtedly be a highlight of the evening, The New York Pops will be joined by New York Theatre Ballet to perform excerpts from Oklahoma!’s famed “Dream Ballet,” using the original choreography by the legendary Agnes De Mille.

The New York Pops’ 30th season continues with an evening featuring the orchestra on November 9, multidenominational holiday concerts with Pink Martini on December 14 and 15, a tribute to Sammy Cahn on March 8, 2013 and a celebration of Stephen Schwartz, composer of Wicked, on April 13, 2013. The season culminates with the orchestra’s 30th Birthday Gala on April 29, 2013.

Single tickets are priced from $37 to $108. Subscriptions to the 2012-2013 Carnegie Hall series are also available, at $165, $200, $260, $360, $490 and $540. Purchases can be made at the Carnegie Hall Box Office (57th Street and 7th Avenue) or by calling CarnegieCharge at 212-247-7800. Visit www.carnegiehall.org for more information.
