John Barrowman Campaigns for GLEE Role as Gay Dad

According the The Press Association, Torchwood star and stage favorite John Barrowman is on a quest to land a role on GLEE as one of Rachel Berry's dads.  He tells the Heat: "I have no idea if I'll be in it, I met with their casting people and I said I'd love to be in it - I'd be good as one of Rachel's gay dads!"

No feedback yet as to whether or not he landed the role.

Television's most award-winning new series, GLEE was honored in its inaugural season with 19 Emmy nominations; a Peabody Award; a Golden Globe for Best Television Series, Comedy or Musical; a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series; and a People's Choice Award for Favorite New TV Comedy. The music from GLEE is an international sensation with "Glee: The Music, Volume 1" and "Glee: The Music, Volume 2" topping charts in Australia, the U.K., New Zealand, Ireland and Canada. In the U.S., over 4.5 million songs have been downloaded, and both albums have been certified Gold for sales in excess of 500,000 units.

Barrowman is best known on British television for presenting work for the BBC and for his role as Captain Jack Harkness in the science fiction series Doctor Who and Torchwood. Barrowman has appeared on Live & Kicking and Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical talent shows Any Dream Will Do, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?, and I'd Do Anything. Barrowman was a contestant on the celebrity ice skating show Dancing on Ice and was a guest act for the Royal Variety Performance. In 1998, Barrowman was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and in 2006 he was votEd Stonewall's "Entertainer of the Year". He has been featured on more than a dozen musical theatre recordings including cover tunes found on the certified gold album Another Side (2007), and Music Music Music (2008), the second Top 40 album by Barrowman to reach the UK albums and singles charts. His self-titled release John Barrowman (2010), received the highest chart rating of any of Barrowman's albums to date. With his sister as co-author, Barrowman has published two memoirs and autobiographies, Anything Goes (2008) and I Am What I Am (2009).
