Ars Nova and the New York Musical Theatre Festival will welcome 2006 Jonathan Larson Award-winner Joe Iconis for "Things to Ruin," which will be performed at Ars Nova on Tuesdsay, September 26th at 8 PM.
"Things to Ruin" is "an evening of incendiary songs about porn stars, panic attacks, drug runs and true love featuring his unique collision of musical theater and unadulterated rock. Performed by a cast of viciously talented young singers and a highly flammable four-piece band led by Joe himself, 'Things to Ruin' will rock your world with an occasionally profane and always heartfelt explosion of music and high drama," state notes on the show, which will be directed by John Simpkins (Go-Go Beach) and produced in association with Temporary Theatre Company.
The cast will include Michael Craig (60's Project at Goodspeed's Norma Terric Theatre), Katrina Rose Dideriksen (original Las Vegas cast of Hairspray), Badia Farha (Little Shop of Horrors national tour), Amy Goldberger, Matt Hinkley (tick, tick...BOOM! regional), Lance Rubin (The Opposite of Sex, Williamstown Theatre Festival), and Jason Williams (Beware of Dog, Istanbul International Theatre Festival).
Iconis, who received his MFA from the NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program, received 2006 Jonathan Larson Award and a 2006 Daryl Roth Award. His garage-band rock musical, The Black Suits--for which he wrote music, lyrics, and co-wrote the book with Robert Maddock--will be seen next year at MCC. Other projects include the "one-armed-man geek-pop extravaganza" Plastic! The Musical (music by Joe and Reza Jacobs, book and lyrics by Robert Maddock) and Nelson Rocks (with Reza Jacobs).
