According to the Chicago Tribune, Broadway and TV actor Jimmy Smits will appear onstage in Steppenwolf Theatre's The Motherf**ker with the Hat in Chicago, directed by Anna D. Shapiro, who helmed the original Broadway production.

Smits will take on the role of "Ralph D," originated by Chris Rock on Broadway. Smits has also appeared on Broadway in Anna and the Tropics and God of Carnage. His TV credits include, "L.A. Law", "NYPD Blue", and "The West Wing."
Stephen Adly Guirgis' hit Tony nominated Best Play THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT ran at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre in 2011, also featuring Bobby Cannavale as Jackie, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Veronica, Annabella Sciorra as Victoria and Yul Vázquez as Cousin Julio.
The production was nominated for six 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Play, Best Direction of a Play (Anna D. Shapiro), Best Leading Actor in a Play (Bobby Cannavale), Best Featured Actor in a Play (Yul Vázquez), Best Featured Actress in a Play (Elizabeth Rodriguez) and Best Scenic Design of a Play (Todd Rosenthal). The play was also nominated for six Outer Critics Circle Awards, three Drama Desk Awards and three Drama League Awards all including Best Play.
