Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, who recently earned a Tony nomination for penning the book to Jersey Boys, will follow up the smash Four Seasons show with a musical based on the popular film(s) Father of the Bride, according to Michael Riedel of The New York Post.

The original 1950 Father of the Bride film, co-written by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, starred Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor, while Steve Martin and Diane Keaton were among the stars of the 1991 remake (which also spawned a sequel). In it, George and Nina Banks launch into frenzied preparations for the upcoming wedding of their daughter--whom George still sees as his little girl.

"Having weathered the advance [antagonism] of the press for writing a jukebox musical, we have now looked for the second most heinous thing to do - adapt a film," stated Elice, whose book for Jersey Boys that he co-wrote with Brickman is built around classic Four Seasons songs. Jersey Boys won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Jersey Boys marked Brickman's Broadway debut as a book-writer. He won an Oscar for co-writing the screenplay of Annie Hall with Woody Allen, and also collaborated with the filmmaker on Sleeper, Manhattan and Manhattan Murder Mystery. Other credits include Lovesick and For the Boys. Elice also made his Broadway debut with Jersey Boys. He is a veteran advertising executive.
