Rhoda Herrick and The AESOP Group will present an invitation-only, industry reading of new a musical Aesop & Company: The Fabled New Musical Comedy Friday, November 4, 2011 at 2:30 PM.
Jay Binder will direct a lineup of Broadway favorites including Rachel Coloff ("Urinetown"), Bernard Dotson ("Finian's Rainbow"), Josh Grisetti (The York's "Enter Laughing: The Musical"), John Christopher Jones ("Hurlyburly", "The Goodbye Girl", "Beauty and the Beast"), Analisa Leaming (Encores! "Where's Charley?"), Alli Mauzey ("Cry Baby", "Wicked"), Brad Oscar ("The Producers," "Young Frankenstein", "The Addams Family"), Blair Ross ("42nd Street"), Danny Rutigliano ("The Lion King", "Billy Elliott", Encores! "Bells Are Ringing"), Kevin David Thomas ("A Little Night Music", "Les Miserables"), Jennifer Laura Thompson ("Urinetown", Wicked"), Stephanie Umoh ("Ragtime"), Kevin Vortmann ("A Little Night Music"), Jessica Vosk (London's Royal Albert Hall "Kristina"), and Ed Watts ("The Fantasticks"). Musical Direction is by Eric Stern and the production stage manager is Adam John Hunter.
With one foot in 600 B. C. Greece and one foot in the Romantic Screwball Comedies of 1940s Hollywood, "Aesop & Company" recreates the fun and the style of the Golden Age of Broadway Musicals filtered through the modern sensibilities of the audience of 2011.
In this madcap imagining of the his actual life, we watch Aesop create his eternal fables and use them to better himself and his fellow man, win the girl of his dreams and ultimately become the unlikeliest hero of "The Greatest Fable of All!"
