Jazz Musical THE JOURNEY OF E to Play Town Hall Theater, 8/18

By:

The Great Depression proved to be a goldmine for the movies. The highest moneymaking films of the 1930s – 42nd Street, Gold Diggers and Footlight Parade – all focused on the depression.

The new jazz musical, THE JOURNEY OF E, is a musical tour of that period, taking the audience from the era of prohibition in America, through the hard times of the Great Depression, and on to jazz in Europe and the music of Edith Piaf – the "E" of the title. Piaf combines the jazz inflections coming from the States with the French chanson, inventing a style that makes her one of the world's most beloved entertainers.

Created by the jazz band Marcel and Beyond the Sun, The Journey of E features the jazz vocals of Carolyn Raming, singing in English and French. The show is currently on tour coast to coast, and will stop at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Saturday, August 18, at 8 pm.

The theater will be arranged like a club, with seating at tables and a cash bar. The house opens at 7:30 for an 8 pm show.

Tickets are $15 and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802-382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sat, Noon-5 pm), or at the door.
