Jacque Carnahan Brings FROM MAIN STREET TO 42ND STREET to , 8/13

As a child growing up on the Central Coast, Jacque Carnahan always dreamed of making it to Broadway. In this inspiring, true story she takes us from her first dance class at The Academy of Dance all the way to the New York stage. Filled with song, dance, humor and a few tears, the West Coast Premier of From Main Street to 42nd Street will perform at Unity for one night only, Saturday August 13th.

"It will be so exciting to be back on the Central Coast with this show. We've had incredible response to the show in New York, and I can't wait to see the reaction at home. A large portion of the story is set in San Luis Obispo, so it's very fitting that we get to do it there. It also means alot to me that I'll be able to give back to the community that supported me as a young person. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cambria Rotary Club as well as a scholarship program I've created for graduating high school seniors to go towards training in the arts through Believe NYC. www.believe-nyc.com

Asked why she wrote this production, Carnahan said: "It all comes down to the story. About a year ago, I was hired to come up with a cabaret of songs for a private event. For whatever reason the "theme" of the songs just wasn't gelling. I brought the material to my music director, Barbara Anselmi, (composer of the Broadway-aimed It Shoulda Been You), and she started asking questions. One story turned into two and then three and suddenly the cabaret was no longer just a list of songs, but a fully realized show. As we wrote, Barbara and I could sense this was something special, but I've never been so surprised and honored by the audience reaction." One audience member described, "The show and Jacque are lively, silly, funny, charming and fun all rolled up into a feel good experience. Jacque makes you believe dreams really do come true". From Main Street to 42nd Street debuted this past January at the New York Triad Theatre and has since played to packed houses in New York's Symphony Space and Manhattan Movement and Arts Center. Jacque says the thrust of the show is about perseverance. Not just dreaming big, but taking the steps necessary to actually live the dream.

Since moving to New York, Jacque has appeared in the National Tour of Cinderella, as Lydia Bennet in the new musical Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, as well as in The Baker's Wife at The York Theater Company and Paper Mill Playhouse, A Little Night Music at Baltimore CenterStage, Pirates of Penzance at Goodspeed Opera House, and The Boyfriend with Musicals Tonight."

Kelrik Productions in cooperation with Believe NYC produces the evening. The second act of the evening will feature Carnahan and several surprise local guests as they sing traditional musical theater repertoire plus tunes from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 and ticket holders are welcome to join the cast after the performance for a reception with a no-host bar and desserts.
