JaLaLa Returns to Birdland May 16
By: Gabrielle Sierra
The Broadway at Birdland series is pleased to announce that JaLaLa will return to the historic stage on Monday, May 16 at 7pm.
Janis Siegel and Laurel Massé, founding members of vocal group The Manhattan Transfer, have long shared a love of the great girl groups of American pop music like the Boswell Sisters and the Ronettes. In 2006, they joined forces with New York Voices' Lauren Kinhan to form the group JaLaLa (for Janis, Laurel and Lauren). Then, Siegel was approached by Dare Records in 2008, and asked to produce a CD of Johnny Mercer tunes. She took the assignment and that old Mercer magic became the first showcase and tour-de-force for JaLaLa. Their debut CD, "That Old Mercer Magic," is available through Dare Records/Ryko/WEA Distribution (a Warner Music Group Company). JaLaLaBirdland (315 West 44 Street, NYC)
