JERSEY BOYS Announces School Recipients of VH1 Save the Music Foundation
Broadway In Chicago; cast members and musicians from the Chicago company of Jersey Boys; David Roche, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for Chicago Public Schools; Richard Ruggiero, Vice President Communication and Public Affairs, Comcast Greater Chicago Region; Jaclyn Shea, Program Manager, the VH1 Save The Music Foundation and students from Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy will convene today as Chicago company members of Jersey Boys present a check with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to fund music education in two of Chicago Public Schools. Schools benefitting from this gift include Jesse Owens Fine Arts Academy and Robert Fulton Elementary School.
Jersey Boys cast members and musicians will lead a Master Class with students following the check presentation today from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy (1840 W Ohio St, Chicago).
The Chicago company of Jersey Boys raised $41,524 to benefit Chicago Public Schools through the VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
As part of the one-year anniversary of the Chicago company of Jersey Boys this October, a dollar from each ticket sold to an October performance was donated to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation to provide instruments to jump start an instrumental music program in one of Chicago Public Schools. Jersey Boys raised enough money to contribute to not one, but two Chicago Public Schools this year.The VH1 Save The Music Foundation, with the help of Comcast, will present $60,000 worth of new musical instruments to restore instrumental music education programs at Jesse Owens Fine Arts Academy and Robert Fulton Elementary School this year as part of The Foundation's efforts to restore 3 million dollars worth of instrumental music programs nationwide this year. This brings the total donation worth of new musical instruments to $1,755,000.00 since 1998.Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide - all before they were thirty. Presented by Broadway In Chicago and TheatreDreams, Jersey Boys, now playing at the Bank of America Theatre, opened in Chicago on October 14, 2007 and became a resident production on February 27, 2008.
