The following is best appreciated if sung to the tune of "Miracle of Miracles" from "Fiddler on the Roof." *
It was a musical. It was a musical!
Blunder of blunders, musical of musicals,
G takes on Broadway, pen in hand.
Wicked, Chicago, Rent, Les Miz and Charity
Get dissected, all get panned.
Cheno and Menzel, fighting over Tony gold,
Schwartz, Shields and Norbert all are sad.
All of the glory goes to others, not to them.
Puppets rule by buying ads.
When Merman sang her show biz songs
That was a musical.
Now Harvey plays women and stunt casting's strong.
Lennon's a musical. Ooh.
But of all bad musicals large and small
The one most criminal of them all
Is La Cage with a humming Bob Goulet.
Help him learn the words today.
Forbidden Broadway, musical of musicals,
Slams Sir Lloyd Webber's first Christine.
Screeching and howling, she sounds like a cat in heat.
Not much better fares Fantine.
When Gerard took on Spamalot
That was a parody.
When Jackman protested he was straight a lot,
That was a parody, too.
But of all the pretentious shows on stage
Guettel's Piazza is still the rage.
For murderous laughter get a clue.
Go see FBSVU.
* Nancy Grossman and Jan Nargi saw this production of "Forbidden Broadway: SVU" together. Nancy's review takes a straight approach. Jan's is gayer. And how's that for irony?
