International Voices Project 2013 Set for Victory Gardens Theatre, Now thru 3/17

By:

In it's 4th year, the International Voices Project will have a home venue for the first time, in residency at Victory Gardens Theater, the 2001 Regional Theater Tony Award recipient.

Plays from France, Canada, Brazil, Austria, Mexico, Wales, and Italy will share the stage in the 4th annual International Voices Project (IVP), running from tonight, March 7th to March 17th, 2013, in Chicago. The International Voices Project is the largest festival of its kind in the country and introduces Chicago audiences to some of the most exciting voices on the international theater landscape.

Season Four will be presented in a two-week festival format on the main stage of Victory Gardens Theater, in collaboration with the represented country's consulate generals and cultural institutions. Victory Gardens' 299-seat Biograph Theater allows IVP room for expansion, improved production facilities, and greater comfort for audiences and artists alike.

"Our goal each year has been to reach a larger audience and to create an interNational Theatre festival in Chicago that brings together theatre artists and audiences invested in bringing international plays to the stage," said IVP Executive Director Patrizia Acerra. "Victory Gardens' current production of Disconnect by Indian playwright Anupama Chandrasekhar illustrates their commitment to global voices. To be able to present these incredible plays on one of the best stages in Chicago, hosted by a company whose mission aligns so closely to ours - we couldn't ask for more."

The International Voices Project celebrates the voices of international playwrights with concert-style readings of selected plays directed and performed by local, professional artists. Each reading is followed by a discussion with the cast and audience, as well as a reception hosted by the affiliated cultural partners for each production.
