Bring your smelling salts and a taste for full-on entertainment to the March ISC Salon.
Refreshments will be available, including Mr Micawber's punch from David Copperfield
The evening's entertainment will include:
A short reading from Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens
A brief introduction to The Life of a touring theater company, featuring the Crummles clan, with their dancing pony and the infant phenomenon.
A staged reading of David Garrick by T.W. Robertson
This short farce brings to life the great 18th-century actor-manager, David Garrick. The daughter of a wealthy merchant, Simon Ingot, has fallen in love with Garrick while watching him perform as Hamlet. In order to save the girl from her unhealthy obsession, the actor vows to present himself as a drunken gambler, totally unsuitable to a lady of her station. A dinner at Mr Ingot's residence is swiftly arranged and hilarity, bowling with crystal decanters, dueling, and unlikely romance ensue.
Although bearing no relationship to actual events, David Garrick conjures up the spirit of the great Shakespearean and puts him at the center of this hysterical farce.
A selection of short scenes from A Woman of the World by Lady Clara Cavendish
In this masterpiece of melodrama, Lisa Selby falls victim to Monte the Mesmerist. Dastardly deeds follow.
