InViolet Repertory Theater to Open THIS IS FICTION 6/12 at Cherry Lane Theatre

By:

InViolet Repertory Theater presents the World Premiere of THIS IS FICTION by Megan Hart. Richard Masur stars in this dramedy directed by Shelley Butler. Performances run June 12 - 30 at Cherry Lane Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street between 7th Avenue & Hudson Streets).

THIS IS FICTION centers on Amy, an aspiring young writer. Amy is on the verge of having her first novel published, but before she does, she has to break the news to her family that it's not entirely fiction. When she shows up at her childhood home in New Jersey, it's time to tell the truth. Fiction is easy. Life is hard.

In addition to Richard Masur, THIS IS FICTION also stars Bernardo Cubria, Aubyn Philabaum, and Michelle David with a production team that includes Obie and Lucille Lortel Award winner Lauren Helpern (set), Les Dickert (lighting), Leon Rothenberg (sound), and Hillary Poirier (stage manager.

Richard Masur has starred in more than 45 feature films, including Risky Business, My Girl, Heaven’s Gate, Heartburn, Under Fire, and Todd Solondz’ Palindromes. He received an Emmy nomination for The Burning Bed opposite Farrah Fawcett. He first appeared on Broadway in 1973 in The Changing Room. His recent theater credits include Michael Frayne’s Democracy, The Exonerated, Rinne Groff’s The Ruby Sunrise at The Public Theater, Mike Leigh’s 2000 Years, Leslie Ayvazian’s Make Me at the Atlantic Theater and The Oldsmobiles at The Flea. He served as National President of Screen Actors Guild from 1995 to 1999.

Megan Hart is a New York based actor and writer. She is a founding member of InViolet Rep. Her acting credits include: Wolves (59E59), Hello Failure (PS122), Degeneracy (3-Legged Dog), Hell House (Les Freres Corbusiers), and The Wikipedia Plays (Ars Nova). Megan studied playwrighting with Stephen Adly Guirgis and her first short play was produced at Center Stage. This is Fiction is her first full-length play. She is a graduate oF Brown University and NYU.

InViolet Repertory Theater was founded in 2008 by an assembly of actors committed to diversifying their talents into writing, directing, and producing. The company is under the Artistic Direction of Michael Henry Harris and Angela Razzano. Their inaugural production was Richard Etchison’s Force Majeure at Abingdon Theater in 2008, followed by critically acclaimed productions of Melanie Maras' Kiss Me on the Mouth (directed by Stephen Adly Guirgis) in November 2009 and Michael Henry Harris' 40 Weeks (directed by Danton Stone) in 2011.
