The Hudson Valley Singers congratulate Carol Morse, President Emeritus of The Hudson Valley Singers, for being awarded the Arts and Culture Award at the United Way Volunteer Center's 2013 Volunteer Spirit Awards. The Volunteer Center of United Way honors outstanding service and gives special recognition to volunteers for their efforts in the community. This year's Volunteer Spirit Awards took place on April 26, 2013 at the Hilton Westchester.

Carol Morse served as the President of The Hudson Valley Singers from 1999 to 2005, after joining as an alto in 1991. She also "commandeered" her husband David, a non-singer to serve as Treasurer. During her tenure Carol spearheaded many fundraising events and campaigns, wrote a policy handbook, searched for venues, and in 2008 conducted an executive search for a new Artistic Director, eventually hiring Eugene Sirotkine, the current "maestro". According to Carol: "After a few years I had to resign as President because David and I were spending 20 hours a day on HVS. The work never ended!" However, in her current role as President Emeritus, and inasmuch as Carol has taken on the additional responsibility of singing with the Hudson Valley Chamber Singers and she and David still serve on both the fundraising and venue committees, they probably put in just as much -- if not more---time and effort into the group. Carol is a retired physical therapist. She and David moved to Dobbs Ferry after spending 3 years in Belgium, where David was working. She has 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

The chorus is currently composed of 70 singers and is a truly intergenerational group. No auditions are required, but all singers are expected to learn the music, attend weekly rehearsals and perform with the group.
