GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy organization, today announced that Madonna will present journalist, author and talk show host Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the New York ceremony on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the New York Marriot Marquis, presented locally by Delta Air Lines. STAGE TUBE: On This Day 3/2- SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE

Today in 1995, Smokey Joe's Cafe opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre) where it ran for 2036 performances. Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller won a Grammy award in 1996. In revue format with no unifying theme the 39 songs are presented by various members of the cast in various combinations, with no dialogue. There are novelty songs ('Charlie Brown'), romantic ballads ('Spanish Harlem') and infectious melodies ('There Goes My Baby'). (more...)

Okay, how many of you were waiting with baited breath to see what happens to a shoe after the leather is moulded into its' shoe shape? 100s of you? 1000s?! For me, A shoe really becomes a shoe at the machine of Eric Anderson, who plays Mutt Johnston. He's the one who puts the sole on the bottom of it. Eric/Mutt takes his job very seriously. He's at that machine all day and all night pretending to put soles on shoes. If anyone could actually apply for a job at a shoe factory after doing this musical, Eric would nail it.
