8) Denzel Washington to Return to Broadway in A RAISIN IN THE SUN?

Denzel Washington, who was last seen on Broadway in Fences, winning a 2010 Tony Award, has been telling the press in interviews that he was headed back to the stage in 2014. Now, Michael Riedel of the New York Post reports today that the show will be A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Kenny Leon and produced by Scott Rudin. Washington will play Walter Lee Younger in the show, which is hoping to hit the stage in the Spring of 2013. (more...)

Tickets for Broadway's ORPHANS, starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, will go on sale to the general public on December 30. Lyle Kessler's play will be directed by Daniel Sullivan. This production will begin performances on March 19 and open on April 7 2013 at the Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street); this will be the first Broadway staging of the play. 11) STAGE TUBE: On This Day 12/28 - FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

Today in 1976, the first Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof opened at the Winter Garden Theatre. Featuring music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, the story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. The original Broadway production of the show, which opened in 1964, had the first musical theatre run in history to surpass 3,000 performances. It spawned four Broadway revivals, a successful 1971 film adaptation, and the show has enjoyed enduring international popularity. It is also a very popular choice for school and community productions. In celebration of this day, we bring you Zero Mostel's performance of 'If I Were a Rich Man.' Click below to check it out!
