Helen Mirren to Star as 'Queen Elizabeth II' in THE AUDIENCE at Gielgud Theatre, Feb 15-June 15

According to the Daily Mail, Helen Mirren will once again play the role of Queen Elizabeth II, though this time onstage in the play The Audience at the Gielgud Theatre. Preview performances begin Feb. 15, with the show's opening slated for March 5, and the run ending June 15, 2013.

Read the original report here.

Mirren won an Academy Award for her portrayal in the 2006 film The Queen, written by Peter Morgan. The Audience is also written by Morgan (who is currently working on a new draft of the script) and will be directed by Stephen Daldry, with designer Bob Crowley. Mirren travels to London to meet with the creative team next week.

The actress will be charged with the task of playing the Queen from the age of 25 into her 80s. Still, Mirren noted to the Mail's Baz Bamigboye that the Queen's "unbelievable consistency in everything" should help facilitate the role.

Byam Shaw, Robert Fox and Andy Harries will produce.

Mirren's Broadway credits include A Month in the Country and Dance Of Death, both for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. She boasts a long stage history, appearing in the Royal Shakespeare Company's The Revenger's Tragedy, All's Well That Ends Well, Trolius and Cressida, As You Like It and The Two Gentlemen of Verona, as well as Enemies at the Aldwych, Miss Julie at The Other Place and more. Her West End credits include Teeth 'n' Smiles, The Seagull, The Bed Before Yesterday, Henry VI, Measure for Measure, Faith Healer, The Duchess of Malfi, The Roaring Girl, Two Way Mirror, Elegy for a Lady, Donmar Warehouse's Orpheus Descending, The National Theatre's Mourning Becomes Electra and Phedre, and many more.

In addition to The Queen, Mirren's film credits include The Debt, The Madness of King George, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Gosford Park, Teaching Mrs. Tingle and more. Mirren has won four SAG Awards, four BAFTAs, three Golden Globes, four Emmys and two Cannes Film Festival Awards.
