Tony Award-winning original AIDA star Heather Headley firmly claimed ownership of another titanic leading lady diva role last night byway of her positively roof-raising "I Will Always Love You" from the new stage adaptation of THE BODYGUARD currently playing in the West End in which she stars.
Paying homage to Whitney Houston's Epic remake of Dolly Parton's touching song of love and loss while making it all her own, Headley more than merely did justice to the memorable showstopper in her fiery performance last night.
The audience at the 2013 Olivier Awards agreed, apparently, granting her a very rare standing ovation at the conclusion of the stupendous showing.
Headley sings "I Will Always Love You" as well as a slew of other Houston hallmarks in the new screen-to-stage adaptation.
With a central performance as stupendous as this at the center, it certainly can't be too long before we shall see Headley back on Broadway in a big role such as THE BODYGUARD provides.
Well, at least we can hope!
