Harris, Levering, Elder to Star in Reprise! On the Town

The cast has been set for the upcoming Reprise! concert production of the classic musical On the Town, with Harriet Harris, Kate Levering and David Elder among the prominent performers in the Leonord Bernstein-Betty Comden-Adolph Green show. On the Town will at UCLA's Freud Playhouse (in Macgowan Hall) from September 20th through October 1st; opening night will be on September 21st.

Levering (Thou Shalt Not, 42nd Street) will play the lithe, elusive Ivy Smith in the show. Known to him as Miss Turnstiles, she is the romantic idol of Gabey, who will be portrayed by Elder (42nd Street, Kiss Me, Kate). David Brouwer and Jeffrey Schechter will respectively play fellow sailors Ozzie and Chip, who search for romance and adventure while on leave in New York, New York, the "helluva town." Harris (Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Man Who Came to Dinner) has been cast as music teacher Madame Dilly, while Tami Tappan Damiano will play Claire De Loone, Alanna Ubach will portray the aggressive Hildy and Larry Cedar will be seen as Pitkin Bridgework.

Jody Ashworth, Shell Bauman, Seth Belliston, Bradley Benjamin, Courtney Combs Doctor, Alissa Nicole Korblentz, Joseph Marshall, Kim Mikesell, Natalie Nucci, Aaron Pomeroy, Justin Robertson, Bryce Ryness, Yvette Tucker, Jacob ben Widmar, Kristen Beth Williams and Vincent Zamora will comprise the rest of the cast.

On the Town originally opened at the Adelphi Theatre on December 28, 1944 to run for 462 performances; Comden, Green and Nancy Walker were among the original cast. Jerome Robbins, whose ballet Fancy Free was the basis for the show, choreographed; George Abbott directed. A 1971 revival at the Imperial Theatre starred Bernadette Peters and Donna McKechnie, and the most recent revival was directed by George C. Wolfe in 1999; that cast featured Lea Delaria, Mary Testa and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. A classic 1949 MGM musical with an altered score features Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Ann Miller.

On the Town's performance schedule is: Tuesday-Friday evenings at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 and 8 PM and Sundays at 2 and 7 PM. Tickets, which range from $55 to $65, can be purchased by calling (310) 825-2101 or by visiting www.reprise.org.
