Harlem Stage Features DREAMS DEFERRED, et al. in June

Too often, hate crimes that affect our community go unmentioned by the media. In this hard-hitting documentary, filmmaker Charles Brack sheds light on the little known story of Sakia Gunn, a 15-year-old student who was fatally stabbed in a gay hate crime in Newark, New Jersey while waiting for a bus. The film depicts the homophobia that caused this murder and questions the lack of media coverage of the murder of a Black teenager.

Celebrating the release of his debut CD State of Art, 2009 Thelonious Monk International Bass Competition winner Ben Williams brings his quintet Sound Effect along with special guests to Harlem Stage for one incredible night! This CD release concert, introducing songs that are a contemporary amalgam of jazz, hip hop, R& B, and classical music, is definitely one that you don't want to miss! Featuring Marcus Strickland (sax), Jaleel Shaw (sax), Matt Stevens (guitar), Gerald Clayton (piano/keys), and Jamire Williams (drums).
