'HOLIDAYS UNCORKED' At NYC's First Winery 12/13

Bohemian Archaeology christens NYC's first winery with "HOLIDAYS UNCORKED," an evening of original (and twisted) holiday stories.

BOHEMIAN ARCHAEOLOGY (Jordana Kritzer, Artistic Director) in association with the critically acclaimed 2nd STORY OF CHICAGO is pleased to announce "HOLIDAYS UNCORKED," an evening of true --and somewhat twisted-- holiday stories commissioned from some of the leading lights of the Chicago theater scene and brought to life by New York actors. Directed by JORDANA KRITZER and EMILY MADISON, this one-night-only special event is Saturday, December 13th at 8:00 PM and will be one of the first performances at CITY WINERY, NYC's first fully operational winery, which is located at 143 Varick St.

Tickets are $20 (plus a $20 charge for a special tasting of five wines chosen expressly for this event by the experts at City Winery) and are available by calling Smarttix at (212) 868-4444 or logging onto their web site at www.smarttix.com. For more information, please log onto www.BohemianArchaeology.org.

Five of Chicago's most effervescent writers join five of New York's most promising actors for a one-time-only Holiday storytelling event. Themes from some of the true stories that comprise "HOLIDAYS UNCORKED:" meeting a step-brother for the first time in matching red flannel pajamas; a Christmas event marred by deer crashing through the front door; watching a homeless man jam to 80s rock with a broomstick on Christmas Eve. These real-life experiences are accompanied by live music as well as a special tasting of five wines--one for each story. Audience members will be treated to the rare experience of an evening inside a new state-of-the-art winery, amid the stainless steel barrels where the wine is fermenting.

Among the Chicago writers contributing stories: BOBBY BIEDRZYCKI, a writer and performer who is an adjunct faculty member of the Fiction Writing Department at Columbia College Chicago where he teaches classes in both fiction and film; MARGOT BORDELON, who has worked for such companies as Steppenwolf Theatre and  Victory Gardens Theatre; KIM MORRIS, whose work has appeared in journals such as New City, No Touching and Toasted Cheese; and MEGAN STIELSTRA, who has performed for The Chicago Poetry Center's No Love For Love show featuring NPR's Ira Glass, Looptopia at The Goodman Theatre, and "Neo Solo" at the Neo Futurarium.

2nd Story of Chicago, the co-producer of "HOLIDAYS UNCORKED," has been producing story-telling evenings in wine bars in Chicago for the last several years and has attracted a sizable audience of die-hard fans who attend the events again and again. The Chicago Reader raved "If these young artists represent the future of Off-Loop theatre, we're in very good hands indeed." Time Out Chicago wrote that "2nd Story puts a theatrical twist on the standard reading." Literango.org said "At 2nd Story you get a packed house and a recipe for success that borders on brilliant."

Co-Director JORDANA KRITZER was selected to direct the first college production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" in 2000 and has since directed the production twice at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Kritzer received the Margaret Ewing Award for Excellence in Acting from Washington University.  Before moving to New York, she spent two years acting and directing in Seattle, WA. Her New York directing credits include: "Time Flies and Others By Ives," "Beyond Therapy" (Bohemian Archaeology),  "Animal Farm" (CSV-Lasting Impressions), "Love, Dogs, and Other Obsessions" (Theater Studio), and "Bash" (Abingdon Theater). As a performer, she was recently featured in Theatre Seven's production of "Yes, This Really Happened To Me" at Chicago Dramatists, which featured stories by some of the writers of 2nd Story and "Holidays Uncorked."

Co-Director EMILY MADISON has performed in Bohemian Archeology's "Time Flies and Others by Ives" and served as dramaturg for "Sin" and "Beyond Therapy." Other dramaturgy credits include "His Girl Friday," "The Suspects," and "The Constant Wife" at the Guthrie Theater and "Kid Peculiar" at Washington University in St Louis, where she received the Herbert E. Metz Award for Dramatic Criticism. She's also worked at the Goodman Theater, Playwrights Horizons and City Theatre in Miami.

BOHEMIAN ARCHAEOLOGY PRODUCTIONS is an NYC-based theater company that has produced "Time Flies and Others By Ives," an evening of David Ives shorts that the New York  Times called "a spirited production," as well as crowd-pleasing revivals of Christopher Durang's "Beyond Therapy" and Wendy MacLeod's "Sin."
