Ground Zero Theatre (GZT) and Hit & Myth Productions (H&M) present SPEED-THE-PLOW by David Mamet, a biting Hollywood comedy at The Studio at Vertigo Theatre Centre (115-9th Avenue, Base of the Calgary Tower), November 10-22, 2009. Directed by Kevin McKendrick, tickets for SPEED-THE-PLOW are on sale now, available through the Vertigo Theatre Box Office at 403-221-3708 or online at www.gzt.ca

Twenty years after its Broadway premiere starring Joe Mantegna, Ron Silver and Madonna in her stage debut, David Mamet's SPEED-THE-PLOW is an intricate comedy that proves itself as sharp and cutting as ever.

A masterwork skewering of the film industry, SPEED-THE-PLOW is a hilarious close-up of art being sacrificed to commerce, portraying two greedy studio executives, Charlie Fox and Bobby Gould, set to pitch a can't-lose deal to their boss. When an unlikely obstacle, in the form of a seductive temp secretary, creates unexpected complications, Gould must decide whether to produce yet another bad action flick guaranteed to be a blockbuster, or an earnest, apocalyptic novel likely to flop.

The cast features Betty Mitchell Award winners Trevor Leigh (Bobby Gould) and Ryan Luhning (Charlie Fox), as well as Betty Mitchell Award nominee Julie Orton (Karen). Director Kevin McKendrick is joined by Assistant Director Karmen J. Rodomar, with Set & Lighting Design by Julia Wasilewski, Costume Design by Deitra Kalyn, Stage Management by Johanne Deleeuw, and Assistant Stage Management by Tuled Giovanazzi.
