Groban and Mead Rumored To Star In 'Phantom' Concert

By:

According the UK's "The Stage", actor Lee Mead will be play Raoul to Josh Groban's Phantom in an upcoming special concert performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera at Royal Albert Hall.

Andrew Lloyd Webber will turn sixty years old on March 22nd. The concert is being broadcast by BBC Radio 2 as one of several events to celebrate the composer's birthday. This concert would be a rarity, as Mr. Webber normally does not give out the performance rights to productions that do not stay within the theatrical guidelines of the show.

Lee Mead recently played the role as an understudy in the West End production before winning the BBC show "Any Dream Will Do."

The concert is scheduled for June. It is being produced by Anthony Cherry who also produced the station's Andrew Lloyd Webber special "Friday Night Is Music Night" last fall. A spokeswoman for The Really Useful Group stated, "The concert is looking promising but contractual agreements have not yet been made."
