Grenser Trio: Beethoven with a Twist Presented by GEMS Today, 11/15

Grenser Trio: Beethoven with a Twist – His Sextet for Three will be presented by Gotham Early Music Scene (GEMS) in a free concert today, November 15, 2012 at 1:15pm at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 619 Lexington Avenue (at 54th Street), New York, NY. No tickets required; seating first-come, first-served.

In the second half of the eighteenth century, chamber music with a new instrument, the clarinet, began to appear in concerts and at amateur gatherings. With little repertoire in existence, clarinetists commissioned original music as well as transcriptions. The Grenser Trio pairs Bohemian composer J.B. Vanhal's third clarinet sonata with A.F. Wustrow's arrangement of Beethoven's wind sextet for trio.

Midtown Concerts offers workers in midtown as well as the general public the opportunity to enjoy high-quality performances of music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods in a convenient, comfortable, acoustically superb venue. Tickets are not necessary; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Free-will donations are gratefully accepted at the door.
