Graham Phillips, of The Good Wife and Broadway's 13, will join a host of Broadway artists in singing seasonal favorites at Broadway in South Africa's third annual holiday party fundraiser and digital camera drive. This event will begin the countdown toward the organization's third annual trip to South Africa next month, when BSA will launch a leadership component, which will include a photo essay assignment to encourage the students to broaden their scope of world. The festivities will take place at The Minskoff Theater, 200 West 45th Street, home of Broadway's The Lion King, on Monday, December 13, 2010, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Tickets purchased in advance are $35 for general admission, $75 for VIPs and $25 for students with a valid current ID to be shown at the door, and can be purchased by visiting www.brownpapertickets.com/event/140018. At the door tickets, are $40, $80 and $30, respectively.
BSA invites guests to donate used, functioning digital cameras, which will be given to the approximate 15 to 20 students who will participate in the leadership component. As a thank you for the donation, these guests will gain VIP guest status.
Party goers will enjoy a spectacular view of Times Square, food, open bar with cocktails and Oriel Wines, hot chocolate by Organicoa, and an evening of live holiday music, including selections from a Julliard string quartet.
Along with Phillips and the Julliard artists, performers will include Declan Bennett (American Idiot), Sean Bradford (The Scottsboro Boys), Brian Crum (Next To Normal), Steven Cutts (Hairspray), Brandon Victor Dixon (The Color Purple), Frankie James Grande (Mamma Mia!), Adam Kantor (Next To Normal), Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening), Chelsea Krombach (Promises, Promises), Tracy McDowell (Rent), Jeremy Schonfeld (albums - Drift, Clear Blue Tuesday), Christopher Spaulding (Curtains), Anne Fraser Thomas (Hunchback of Notre Dame tour), Alysha Umphress (American Idiot), Donna Vivino (Wicked) and Lisa Nicole Wilkerson (The Lion King).
Jared Stein (American Idiot) will provide musical accompaniment for all performers.
Additional Broadway in South Africa sponsors and supporters include Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Design Compendium and the Nederlanders for donating the space.
Broadway in South Africa's mission is to provide cross-cultural exchange between youth in need and artists who seek to use their talents for positive, global change. Through arts education, BSA works to empower its students with self-confidence, self-respect, self- awareness, public speaking skills, the opportunity to create through collaboration with others and the ability to dream.
BSA has worked with over 1,000 children and young adults from one rural area and more than eight townships outside of South Africa's three major cities, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Many of the workshop participants have been directly affected by HIV/AIDS, violence and/or poverty.
