Girl Up and Project Girl Performance Collective Inspire at TEDxWomen

Participants around the world taking part in today's TEDxWomen conference were inspired by the United Nations Foundation's Girl Up campaign and Project Girl Performance Collective, and walked away with the message that girls can change the world. Project Girl Performance Collective created and performed an original theatrical piece on behalf of Girl Up on the idea that together, girls have the power to create a better future for themselves and their sisters around the world.

Girl Up and Project Girl Performance Collective participated in a TEDxWomen session hosted by actress, author, producer, and activist, Jane Fonda. The day's event also featured writer, lecturer, editor, and feminist activist, Gloria Steinem, and renowned cardiac surgeon and host of Emmy Award-winning "The Dr. Oz Show," Mehmet Oz. Other conference speakers included president and CEO, The Paley Center for Media, Pat Mitchell, renowned journalist, author, and columnist, Nicholas Kristof, and captain and founder of the first female soccer team in Afghanistan, Shamila Kohestani.

UN Foundation CEO Kathy Calvin said, "This session reminded all of us that all girls, regardless of where they live, should have access to education, safe environments and the freedom to achieve their dreams. If we empower girls with the right tools, both here in the U.S. and around the world, we enable them to build a better future and a better world."

Girl Up and Project Girl Performance Collective have collaborated on multiple events throughout the year that have engaged girls in cities around the United States on how they can help girls in developing countries become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.
