Massimo Giordano will sing the role of Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore on March 31 and April 4 matinee, replacing Rolando Villazón, who is suffering from laryngitis. Villazon plans to return for performances on April 8, 11, 15, and 18.

Giordano sang Alfredo in La Traviata and Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Met earlier this season. He made his company debut in 2006 as Des Grieux in Massenet's Manon and the following season sang Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi in the new production of Puccini's Il Trittico, which was also transmitted worldwide as part of The Met: Live in HD series. These will be his first Met performances of Nemorino, a role he has sung with the Berlin State Opera.
