German Play Arabian Night Falls Over Off-Bway Through 7/1

By:

The German play Arabian Night, by Roland Schimmelpfennig, will be presented in its New York premiere at the East 13th Street Theatre (136 E. 13th St., between 3rd and 4th Avenues) from May 31st through July 1st, with opening night set for June 12th.

Translated by David Tushingham, it will be helmed by Tripp Cullman (The Wooden Breeks, Dog Sees God). The play will feature Roxanna Hope, Piter Marek, Brandon Miller, Stelio Savante, and Jicky Schnee.

Set in an anonymous housing complex, Arabian Night is "an erotic urban fantasy....part fairy tale, part noir thriller and part nightmare," according to press notes. In the play, five people connect over the disappearance of their apartment building's water supply.

Louisa Thompson (sets), Katherine Roth (costumes), Lenore Doxsee (lighting) and Bart Fasbender (sound) serve on the design team for the show.

A popular dramatist in Germany, Schimmelpfennig's other plays include The Woman Before and Push-Up.
