Georgia Shakespeare Hosts High School Acting Competition

Over 65 students from 15 Georgia schools compete for scholarships and awards during Georgia Shakespeare's 2nd Annual High School Acting Competition, Saturday, February 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Conant Performing Arts Center (4484 Peachtree Rd. NE at Oglethorpe University).

Students perform monologues and scenes from William Shakespeare in this friendly competition which will be adjudicated by local actors and Georgia Shakespeare's Associate Artists.

"This year, we have doubled the number of students participating in the festivities," said Georgia Shakespeare's education director Allen O'Reilly who instituted the program in 2007. "Our 2009 competition features representatives from traditional Metro Atlanta drama powerhouses such as Brookwood, Pebblebrook, North Springs and Westminster in addition to impressive contingencies from Athens, Augusta, Statesboro and Valdosta."

Participating schools include Westminster Schools, Brookwood High School, Woodward Academy, Pebblebrook High School, Dutchtown High School, North Springs High School, Dunwoody High School, Trinity Christian, Cook High School, Roswell High School, Athens Academy, Norcross High School, Northview High School, Whitefield Academy, and Westside High School.
