Garry Krinsky Presents Toying with Science at Jorgensen on Feb. 22

By:

Garry Krinsky makes learning fun in "Toying with Science" at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, February 22 at 1 and 3 pm. This fast-paced, varied and dynamic program for children and families was commissioned and developed with the Museum of Science in Boston and comes to Jorgensen as part of UConn's Year of Science. An hour before each performance, Jorgensen staff will begin setting the mood with face-painting and interactive science fun for all.

Combining circus skills, mime, original music and audience involvement, Krinsky takes his audience on a lively investigation of basic scientific information, delving into the imaginations of the scientists who explore our world. He looks at the principles of gravity and leverage and the workings of fulcrums and simple machines with humor and insight. He even balances five ladders at one time on his chin to demonstrate how to find the center of gravity!

It has been said that Garry Krinsky resembles a living cartoon with his animated movement and nonstop energy. He is a very physical entertainer, turning audience members into stars as he playfully shares the stage, juggling, balancing and welcoming them into his colorful, active world.

An actor in high school and student of mime and theatrical clowning, Krinski later became a street performer and delivered telegrams in a gorilla suit. He was an original member of the Boston Buffoons, co-founder of the Patchwork Players, and a member of The Wright Bros., a New England vaudeville troupe. In 1978, Garry started bringing his experience and energy to schools, theaters and festivals. He has also performed on live television, including NBC's Today show. In 1995, he created "Toying with Science" and has been touring across the U.S. and Canada to rave reviews.

Offstage Krinsky snorkels, kayaks, runs, and competes in triathalons - activities that have helped keep him in shape for the energy his stage work requires. His goal is to show audience members that they are the fulcrums of their own lives and to help them see that, at its heart, science is about discovery - and discovery is fun!

Regular tickets $13; some discounts available. For tickets and information, call 860.486.4226 or order online at: www.jorgensen.uconn.edu. Jorgensen is located at 2132 Hillside Road at the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
