Garber and Hines Join Encores! Follies Concert

Mimi Hines will play Hattie Walker and Victor Garber will play Ben Stone in Follies, the opening production of New York City Center's 2007 Encore! series.  Follies, Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's legendary 1971 multiple Tony Award-winner, will be directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, with music direction by Eric Stern and will play for five performances, from February 8 – 11, at New York City Center, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. 

Victor Garber was nominated for Tony awards for his work in Damn Yankees, Lend Me A Tenor, Deathtrap and the 1985 revival of Little Me. Other credits include the original Broadway casts of Arcadia, Noises Off and Sweeney Todd.  Movie goers know him from performances in James Cameron's Titanic, The First Wives Club, Sleepless in Seattle and Legally Blonde.  He was nominated for Emmy Awards for his work on the ABC miniseries "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows," and "Alias." He recently portrayed President John P. Wintergreen in the Encores! production of Oh Thee I Sing.

Mimi Hines began her career as a singer and comedienne, and with her partner Phil Ford, headlines all the top TV Variety and talk shows, nightclubs and showrooms in the country. On Broadway, she replaced Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl, playing this star vehicle for 18 months on her own star power.  She then starred in national productions of I Do! I Do!, Prisoner of Second Avenue, Anything Goes, Never Too Late , Pajama Game, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Hello Dolly! and Pippin.  

The cast of Follies, as of November 29, 2006, includes Lucine Amara, Christine Baranski, Philip Bosco, Leena Chopra, Victoria Clark, Yvonne Constant, Diane J. Findlay, Robert Fitch, Victor Garber, Mimi Hines, Michael McGrath, Donna Murphy/>, Anne Rogers, Arthur Rubin, Dorothy Stanley, Gerry Vichi and Joanne Worley.  Garber stars as Ben Stone, McGrath as Buddy Plummer, Murphy as Phyllis Rogers Stone and Clark as Sally Durant Plummer. Further casting will be announced at a later date. 

Follies, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Goldman, opened on Broadway on April 4, 1971, winning eight Tony Awards, including one for Outstanding Score, which includes "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind" and "I'm Still Here."  

Follies takes place in the present and the past simultaneouslyOn the eve of its destruction, the once-glorious Weissman Theatre is filled with the ghosts of its past, as veteran showgirls from the Weismann's Follies, a musical revue, (based on the Ziegfeld Follies) reunite to rekindle the aura of the glamorous old days and relive lost memories of promise and splendor. As the evening goes on, the former showgirls reminisce about their past experiences, both good and bad.
