Fox Valley Rep 'Kickstarts' Collider New Play Project by Raising Funds

By:

Three playwrights, three scientists, three new plays, three thousand dollars. Fox Valley Repertory's selected playwrights are hard at work penning their world premiere staged readings for the Collider New Play Project, a first-of-its kind initiative taking place during the inaugural Summer Theater Festival this July.

The Collider New Play Project pairs three playwrights with three scientists to develop new works that focus on the mysteries of the universe as they relate to human existence. The three playwrights and their respective plays are Reina Hardy of Chicago with "Stars and Barmen," K. Frithjof Peterson of Saginaw, MI with "A Scientist's Guide to Love and Poetry", and Garret C. Schneider of Nashville, TN with "Clockwork Child." These readings will take place July 16 - 30, 2011 on Saturdays at 1pm at Pheasant Run Resort.

For this project, $3,000 is needed to support the playwrights, actors, and directors for their time, research, and talents. A campaign has been created on the national Kickstarter fundraising site to give people the opportunity to support this project. If $3,000 is not raised by July 18, Fox Valley Repertory will have to forfeit all pledges.

"Having started this fundraising campaign nearly a month ago, we're very pleased with the amount of donations we have received so far. It's encouraging to see this amount of excitement and energy go towards this program," says Development Manager Scott Piner of St. Charles. "We only have a month and a half to raise another $2,000. Most of this money will go towards compensating these playwrights, who are putting countless hours, energy, and research into making this project a truly remarkable experience for the Fox Valley area."

Interested supporters can visit Kickstarter directly at http://kck.st/h2lFh9
or www.foxvalleyrep.org. Donation rewards include a signed script, a Collider "brainstorming" pad of paper and pen, the opportunity to skype and go to dinner with Fox Valley Rep Artistic Director John Gawlik.
